Abstract

786,487. Reciprocating pumps; compressors. WILLIAMS, E. May 13, 1955 [May 13, 1954], No. 14077/54. Classes 8(1) and 102(1). A hydraulically actuated flexible chamber pump is supplied with actuating liquid from a cylinder 12 in which a piston 13 having a central bore slidable on a shaft 17 is reciprocated by means of an eccentric 11. The central bore of the piston communicates at one end with a duct 19 and a reservoir 20 and has ports 16 which communicate with the pressure side of the piston. Delivery to the diaphragm takes place when the ports 16 are closed by the shaft 17 the point of closing being variable by adjusting the axial position of the shaft 17 by means of a handwheel 22. The pressure side is provided with an adjustable pressure release valve 25 and an air release valve both of which communicates with the reservoir 20. In a modification the shaft 17 is automatically adjusted by means of a servo device and in addition has a manual setting control.
