Abstract

A tampon is made from sponge made of polyvinyl acetal, preferably polyvinyl formal, which is compressed to approximately one-third of its normal size to form the desired cylindrical shape. The compressed material retains its shape and size until wetted, and is sufficiently strong for a withdrawal cord to be threaded through it if desired. Specification 573,966, [Group IV], is referred to.
