Abstract
Regenerated cellulose threads and films having a high shrinkage and rubbing resistance and a low degree of swelling are obtained by extruding viscose containing 0.06-0.4 per cent by weight of an imidazole into an aqueous coagulating bath containing 30-50 g./l. of zinc sulphate and 40-65 g./l. of sulphuric acid, and then regenerating the cellulose in a second hot aqueous bath containing 2-10 g./l. of sulphuric acid while stretching the products 80-120 per cent. Imidazoles substituted in the 2- and/or 4-position by alkyl or alkanol groups or in the 2-position by an organic acid radical may be employed. The coagulation bath also contains sodium sulphate in the usual amounts and preferably has a temperature of 45-70 DEG C. The thread withdrawal speed is preferably 40-50 m/min. The temperature of the regeneration bath should be higher than 90 DEG C. The products may finally be after-stretched.
