Abstract
Regenerated cellulose threads and films of improved properties are obtained by extruding viscose having a gamma number of 43 and containing 0.1-0.8 per cent by weight of hydrazine into an aqueous coagulating bath containing at least 30 g/l. of zinc sulphate and 40-65 g/l. of sulphuric acid and then regenerating the cellulose in a second hot aqueous bath, if desired containing sulphuric acid, while stretching the product 80-120 per cent. The coagulation bath also contains sodium sulphate in the usual amounts and has a temperature of 50-70 DEG C. The thread withdrawal speed is preferably 40-60 m/min.
