785,651. Knitting-machines. VEB TRIKOTAGENWERK TRINELI VVB INDUSTRIEZWEIGLEITUNG TRIKOT. April 19, 1955, No. 11322/55. Class 74 (2). A stop motion is operated in an independent needle knitting - machine when a needle, which has become defective through breakage, or is devoid of a loop through yarn breakage or any other cause which results in the needle failing to be pulled clear of a butt-engaging member 7 by the pull of the fabric after the needle has been lowered by the stitch cam 3, engages the butt-engaging member 7 and causes it to close contacts of an electrical circuit of the stop-motion. The member 7 is mounted on a pivot 9 carrying a contact 23 which is swung to engage contact 21. A door may be provided in the cam bed which is positioned at a point covering the defective needle when the machine is stopped. In a double bed machine a rotatable disc may be provided to press on the fabric or loops extending between the needles of each bed and thereby increase the pull on the needles.
