Abstract

785,597. Rotary pumps. FORD, R. C. Aug. 14, 1956 [Aug. 16, 1955; Nov. 2, 1955; Dec. 15, 1955], Nos. 23540/55, 31280/55 and 35977/55. Class 110 (2). A pump of the type described in Specifications 590,045, 612,604, 744,413, 744,414, and 785,596 is provided with reinforcement or support means for the liner 5 of flexible material, at at least that portion of the fluid passageway adjacent the pump outlet 12. In Figs. 1, 2 the liner 5 is damped at its side edge positions, in the body 1, by means of support rings 15 attached to end plates 16. The liner is also clamped by a member 7 to close the working chamber between inlet and outlet ports 2, 3. The rings may be of sheet metal, or formed as castings or mouldings. Internal reinforcement 26, which may consist of nylon, " Terylene " (Registered Trade Mark), rayon or the like or wire, wire mesh, plates or flexible strips, may be provided in the flexible material, and may extend to the sides of the liner 5. Alternatively, or additionally, a series of transverse rods 27, Fig. 4 (not shown) may be embedded or bonded in the flexible material. The rods may be of silver steel. Fig. 5 shows another arrangement in which a support plate 29 is provided for the liner 5. The plate is perforated at 30 to allow the insertion of raised portions 31 of the liner to pass through and be held. The portions 31 are arranged in staggered fashion so that rollers 9 pass evenly over them. Other forms of reinforcing are described in connection with Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) including canvas strips.
