Abstract
783.883. Electrically-heated fabrics. NEGROMANTI. A. Mav 31, 1955 [June 3, 1954], No. 16429/54. Class 39(3) [Also in Groups IX, XXXV and XXXVI] An electrically-heated pad or blanket comprises two layers of fabric made from polyvinyl chloride or polythene yarns, joined together by interweaving or welding along parallel lines 7, the ends of the lines being staggered so that when a bare resistance wire 6 is inserted through the tabular passages so formed, it is not exposed at the lips 8, 9, which are subsequently sewn together. Some of the yarns are heat-shrinkable, whereby the fabric is caused to corrugate on one face, as shown in Fig. 6, or on both faces, the faces are napped. A thermostatic control (see Group XXXV) comprises a wheatstone bridge, of which the blanket forms one arm, operating a relay to switch the current on and off. A safety circuit (see Group XXXVI) for switching off the current in case of local overheating comprises a pair of wires (alongside the heater wire) insulated from each other by nylon which becomes conductive at 120‹C., thereby bridging the two wires to operate a relay.
