Abstract

783,594. Television. WHITING, E. G., WHITING, B., and BOUTLE, S. J. Nov. 12, 1954 [Oct. 18, 1954], No. 34155/56. Divided out of 783,593. Class 40 (3). A hood for excluding extraneous light from the screen of a television receiver comprises a plurality of flat walls projecting obliquely forwardly and outwardly on at least three sides of the screen, the arrangement being secured to the receiver by means of a flexible fastening band. As shown, the hood comprises flat wall members A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP> the rear edges of which are provided with flange-like members A<SP>4</SP>, A<SP>5</SP>, A<SP>6</SP> which are secured together to form, with a tie member G, an open-backed frame surrounding the screen B<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 1). The members A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP> may be provided with flaps K, K<SP>1</SP>, respectively, lying in the plane of the top wall member A<SP>1</SP> and pivoted thereto at L, L<SP>1</SP>, thus allowing the side walls to be swung outwardly about vertical axes through the pivots. The top wall member A<SP>1</SP> may be provided with a hinged extension flap J to increase the masking effect of the hood and similar extension flaps may be provided on the side walls A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP>. The hood is secured to the television receiver by a fastening band C and further support may be provided by means of suction cups D attached to the back of the flange-like members.
