In a ship's window or side scuttle comprising a main frame a for fitment within an aperture of the ship's plating and a glass holding frame b hinged to the main frame and securable in watertight position by means of swivel bolts h pivoted at j between lugs a<SP>4</SP> of the main frame and nuts k engaging the lugs b<SP>1</SP> of the glass holder, said securing lugs b<SP>1</SP> have recessed undersurfaces b<SP>3</SP> to accommodate said swivel bolt lugs a<SP>4</SP> when the glass holding frame is secured in watertight position. The, or each, securing lug e<SP>1</SP> of the deadlight e is formed with a recessed undersurface e2.
