Abstract

782,239. Fuel injectors; fuel valves. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 14, 1955 [Dec. 16. 1954], No. 35899/55. Classes 7(3) and 7(6) In a petrol-injection engine wherein the power output is regulated by varying the quanity of fuel injected, a small substantially constant quantity of fuel is injected into a precombustion chamber 15 by an injection pump through an injector 19 which automatically measures out fuel, and is ignited in the chamber by a controlled ignition device, such as a sparking plug 16, and the rest of the fuel delivered by the pump in the same stroke is then sprayed into the main combustion space through an injector 17 and is ignited by the stream of burning mixture emerging from the chamber 15. The spring 21 acting on the injector 19 may be weaker than the spring 27 acting on the injector 17 so that the injector 19 opens first, the supply being shut off after an interval by a valve 20. Fig. 3 shows alternative means for metering the fuel to the chamber 15, comprising a piston 32 which is acted on.by fuel pressure and interrupts the supply through a passage 37 to an injector 36. Fuel passes to the main. injector through a passage 35. The piston 32 may be provided with a delay device to prevent premature shut off.
