Abstract

Stable lacquer mixtures suitable with the addition of pigments, dyestuffs and fillers for use as waterproof-coating compositions drying rapidly at normal temperatures comprise an epoxy polymer having more than one epoxy group per molecule, a cycloaliphatic diamine having the amino groups attached to the same cycloaliphatic radicle and a lacquer solvent. There are specified as: (1) epoxy compounds-aromatic and aliphatic polyglycidyl ethers derived from alcohol or phenols and epichlorhydrin; (2) amines-1,2-, 1,4- and 1,3-diamino-cyclohexane, 1,2-diamino-4-ethyl-, 1,4-diamino-3,6-diethyl- and 1-cyclohexyl-3,4-diaminocyclohexane; bis(methylamino) cyclohexane 1,4; (2) solvents-ketones, esters, alcohols, glycol ethers, hydrocarbons. Small amounts of flow agents, e.g. phenol- and urea-formaldehyde resins, high molecular weight amines and their salts or quaternary ammonium compounds may also be added. In examples: (1) a liquid epoxy resin of epoxy value 0.36 and prepared from butane triol and epichlorhydrin is mixed with 12 parts 1,4-diaminocyclohexane to give a mixture having a pot life of 2 hours at 20 DEG C.; (2) a 40 per cent solution of an epoxy resin of epoxy value 0.2 is dissolved in equal parts of methyl isobutyl ketone, ethylene glycol monoether and toluene. 100 parts of the solution are mixed with 2 parts of a 60 per cent butanol solution of urea formaldehyde resin and 2.4 parts 1,2-diaminocyclohexane.
