Abstract
The invention comprises amides of tetraacetyl mucic acid of the general formula <FORM:0781255/IV (a)/1> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon containing up to 5 carbon atoms, R1 is hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing up to 5 carbon atoms and Ac represents an acetyl group, and their preparation by treating a tetraacetyl mucic acid dibromide or dichloride with 2 mols of an amine of the general formula HN(R)R1, in the presence of an acid-binding agent. In examples tetra-acetyl mucic acid dichloride is treated with (1) diethylamine and (2) di-n-butylamine to give the corresponding bis-amides; other specified products are the tetra-acetyl mucic acid bis amides derived from dimethylamine, ethylamine, di-n-propylamine, di-isobutylamine, di-b -methallylamine, butylamine and N-methyl-N-butylamine.
