Abstract
780,833. Transistor and cold-cathode tube switching circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1955, No. 39446/56. Divided out of 780,832, [Group XIX]. Class 40 (6). In an arrangement for connecting two signal circuits C1, C2 two switches A, B are connected in series and are of a type having two transmission electrodes and a control electrode, a twocondition circuit being associated with their connecting lead and. switching signals are applied to the whole circuit. In one state the switches A, B are off and the two-condition device is on and in the other state the switches are on and the device is off. In the circuit described symmetrical transistors are used with transmission electrodes A1, A2, B1, B2 with associated control electrodes A3, B3. When the switch is open the terminal D is maintained at plus 12 volts thereby ensuring that both base electrodes A3, B3 are positive with respect to the electrodes A1 ... B2, since due to rectifier MR3 conducting, the join A2, B2 is maintained at plus 10 volts. The switch is closed by lowering the potential of terminal D to minus 12 volts when the base electrodes A3, B3 fall below the potentials of their associated transmission electrodes. When the switch is open diode MR3 conducts to present a low-impedance path to earth for signal currents. In the closed position the diode is non-conducting and presents a high shunt impedance. The switches A, B may be cold-cathode tubes having two anodes and a single cathode as described in Specification 734,345. Specification 780,831 also is referred to.
