Abstract
584,740. Multivibrator circuits. CUTTS, F. W. April 6, 1944, No. 6421. [Class 40 (v)] In a cross-connected pair of valves employing capacity coupling, means are provided for rendering both of the valves non-conducting by a controlling pulse whereby after the termination of the pulse the previously conducting valve becomes non-conducting and vice versa. The circuit may be employed as a frequency divider of pulses or for switching signal into different channels. Valves 1, 2 cross-connected over condensers 4, 6 operate with one valve conducting the resulting drop in screen grid potential due to the current flow lowering the potential of the control grid of the other valve sufficiently to maintain it in the cut-off condition. A negative pulse applied to the grid of valve 13 cut off the anode current, the potential of the cathodes of valves 1, 2 rising to render both non-conducting. After the termination of the pulse, valve 13 conducts again and as the cathode potential of valves 1, 2 falls the previously non-conducting valve conducts since the potential drop across the corresponding condenser 4, 6 is less than for the previously conducting valve. Alternatively a positive pulse may be applied to the grid of valve 14 coupled to valve 13 over cathode resistance 15. Where the pulses are regularly recurring, the resistances 3, 5 may be omitted. Reference has been directed by the Comptrotler to Specification 572,884.
