780,468. Making paper &c. tubes. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES C. & A. HOLWEG. Jan. 27, 1956 [Feb. 7, 1955], No. 2698/56. Class 99(2). In a machine for making sacks or bags from a web 8 of material such as paper, plastic or regenerated cellulose, a tube-forming device comprises two freely-rotatable frusto-conical rollers 1, 1<SP>1</SP> mounted on a common stationary support, and two guide rods 4, 4<SP>1</SP> which cooperate with the rollers. The latter rotate about axes disposed symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal central axis of the device and are equally inclined outwardly and downwardly and forwardly with respect to the direction of movement of the web, the uppermost parts of the peripheries of the rollers lying in a common horizontal plane. As shown, the web 8 leaves guide rollers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> to run obliquely upwards on to the adjutable rollers 1, 1<SP>1</SP> the distance between the outermost points of which correspond to the width of the tube. The depending edges of the web are successively engaged by the adjustable rods 4, 41, folded one over the other, and adhesively secured together ; the tube then passes between rollers 10, 101.
