Abstract

779,103. Two-part couplings; fusible cutouts. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP FABRIEK VAN ELECTRISCHE APPARATEN VOORHEEN F. HAZEMEIJER & CO. Aug. 2,1955 [Aug. 5,1954], No. 22160/55. Class 38 (1). A circuit-breaker comprises a fixed member 2 carrying fixed contacts 13 housed in insulating sleeves 4 and a detachable member consisting of a two-part bridge 19, 27 carrying plunger contacts 29 and housed in a hood 16 which shrouds the engaged contacts in the closed position. The contacts 29 are connected either by a fuse 24 or a link. Member 2 also carries a permanent magnet 6 which engages a member 38 on the bridge part 27 to retain the two members together. To break the circuit a handle 17 on the hood is pulled which transmits motion to the bridge-part 19 through strips 39. Movement of part 19 compresses springs 25 until rods 43 carried by strips 39 engage bridge-part 27 and overcome the attraction of magnet 6 whereupon the bridge-part 27 and contacts 29 are separated from the fixed member 2 with a snap action by springs 25. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein the magnet is replaced by a spring catch consisting of pairs of parallel pivoted arms 41 drawn together by a spring 44 and carrying rollers 42 which engage a hooked extension 46 on the bridge-part 27. Thus, the rollers 42 retain the bridge-part 27 on withdrawal of the hood 16 until it is released as before by rods 43. Fig. 5 shows a further modification having a spring catch in the form of a pin 52 with notches 63 which are engaged by parallel spring rods in an extension 51 of member 2. The pin is rotatable on bridge-part 27 and carries a sleeve 58 having a slot 60 in its outer end engaged by a twisted guide member 54 carried by bridge-part 19. When the part 19 is withdrawn with the hood 16, the guide 54 rotates pin 57 until the springs leave the notches 63 whereupon part 27 is released, its subsequent movement causing guide 54 to rotate pin 57 back to its original position.
