778,418. Cycle luggage-carriers. EVIAN (G.B.), Ltd. Dec. 14, 1955 [Dec. 14, 1954], No. 36185/54. Class 136(1). [Also in Group XXV] A holder for a cyclists' flask comprises a stirrup 1 pivoted at 2 to a contractible band 3, the centre limb of the pivot having a permanently mounted deformable strut 6 the free end of which is drilled at 10 to accommodate a steadying bolt. A support member of approximately W-shaped section is connected at 5 to the band 3 so that the support and band pivot as a whole about the rivets 2. The strut 6 may be pivoted at 7 to the stirrup 1 or it may be permanently fixed. The actuating device for the contractible band 3 comprises a loop 11 which is threaded through drillings in a pivoted buckle 12 carried by the other end of the band, the buckle acting in the manner of a toggle. In use the stirrup 1 is turned about the pivots 2 until it is in the position shown in Fig. 3. The flask is then inserted and the contractible band 3 is tightened. The deformable strut 6 is then swung into position and bent about a weakened part 8 until it embraces the flask. The device is then fixed to the handlebars of a bicycle by clips 13. The end of the strut 6 is then secured to a bolt passing through a clip 14 on the bicycle frame. In a modified device (not shown) suitable for mounting on an inclined tube of the bicycle frame by means of a clip, the support is dispensed with and the deformable strut 6 has a cranked end. The bolt securing the clip passes through a drilling in the cranked end of the strut 6 and through a drilling in the contractible band 3. Instead of being permanently pivoted to the stirrup the contractible band may be detachable therefrom, polygonal apertures being provided for the accommodation of corresponding bolts in the free ends of the stirrup and in the contractible band.
