Abstract
777,214. Foundry ladles. BIRLEC, Ltd. April 9, 1953 [April 9, 1952], No. 28449/56. Divided out of 777,213. Class 82(1) [Also in Groups XI, XII and XXII] The flow of molten metal from a container, for example of molten aluminium, to a die-casting machine, is controlled by an electromagnetic induction coil 32 (see Figs. 3 and 6) disposed around a chamber 31 extending laterally from the container 21 and around the inner end of an inclined discharge nozzle 38 extending through the end of the chamber 31, the metal level 34 in the container being maintained above the outer end of the nozzle by tilting it about pivot 22 and the induction coil B2 acting to impel molten metal away from its submerged end and when de-energized allowing metal to flow through the nozzle to die casting machine 37. The container 21 is a melting furnace heated by an induction coil 27 and tilted by hydraulic cylinder 23, and the nozzle 38 has an electric resistance coil 47 to prevent metal freezing at the outlet. The nozzle is inclined at approximately 45 degrees to the axis of the chamber 31 and has a restriction 44 at its inlet 41, which is located near the bottom, but spaced from the end, of the chamber 31. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the outlet is in substantially horizontal alignment with the pivot 22, this arrangement allowing the pouring distance from the nozzle to the die-casting machine to be held more nearly constant.
