Abstract
1357410 Casting apparatus GRAVICAST PATENTVERWERTUNGS GmbH 28 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 45137/71 Heading B3F In a casting apparatus comprising an upwardly extending nozzle 6 and a mould 8, a slidable plate is located in the bottom wall of the mould for shutting off the supply of melt to the mould when the latter has been filled. The sliding plate may be made of metal and is provided with non-metallic refractory material at that surface which faces the casting nozzle and co-operates therewith when the plate is in its closing position. The plate may be provided with a hole 23 which is in alignment with the nozzle 6 during the filling of the mould and it may be water-cooled. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the mould is filled under the influence of the ferrostatic pressure of the melt in a container 1, the rate of introduction into the mould be controlled by a stopper 5. When the mould has been filled, the sliding plate (not shown in Fig. 1) is moved to its closing position, locked in said position, and the mould removed from the remainder of the apparatus. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a continuous line of moulds is moved past the nozzle 6, the movement of the sliding plates 14 being effected by a piston and cylinder unit 25. The moulds may be made of sand, the sliding plates being incorporated therein during the making of the mould.
