Abstract
776,714. Magnetic couplings and brakes. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 7, 1955 [July 27, 1954], No. 21908/54. Class 35. In a coupling, brake or dynamometer with air or magnetic fluid between the members, one of which incorporates at least one permanent magnet, an adjustable shunt comprising two magnetically-insulated magnetic parts is provided to divert the permanent magnet flux from the other member. As shown, the magnet 30 is shunted by the magnetic sleeve 34 and the device is inoperative but when sleeve 34 is moved to the left by handle 37 the non-magnetic part 35 is brought over the magnet diverting the flux across gaps 40, 41 into the other member 38 shown as the driven member of a coupling.
