Abstract
776,381. Band Clips. MEARS, C. R. March 13, 1956 [Dec. 13, 1954], No. 35959/54. Class 44. [Also in Group XXVIII] A clamping member 9 for a pipe joint is formed by two or more clamping units 10 articulated one to another and each comprising arcuate members 13 spaced apart axially of the pipes and joined by circumferentially-spaced bridge-pieces 14 which have hollow, inwardlyfacing V-shaped faces 15. The members 13 and bridge-pieces 14 may be cast in bronze or other material to form a unitary element, or made integrally as forgings or stampings; alternatively, the members and bridge-pieces are made as separate parts and connected by welding or riveting. Instead of bridge-pieces of the form shown, bobbin-shaped bridge-pieces may be used, these being rotatably mounted on spindles joining the members 13; one end of each of the latter is bifurcated to receive the plain end of an adjacent member. The toggle-type contracting means of the clamping member comprises spaced-apart arms 20 pivoted to a unit 10 at one end of the member and links 22 pivoted one to each arm, the links being provided with hookshaped ends to engage studs 23 at the opposite end of the member and being joined laterally by a bar 24.
