Abstract
775,472. Dial gauges; indicating-apparatus. BOOTH, C. H. Dec. 28, 1954 [Dec. 28, 1953], No. 35994/53. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). In indicating-apparatus in which a rolling rotor 1 is rotated by a pair of tangential driving elements 4, 5, each in non-slip engagement with respective axially displaced portions 2, 3 of different radii, each driving element 4, 5 can positively rotate the rotor 1 in either direction according to the direction of relative displacement between the elements. In a symmetrical arrangement duplicate pairs of taut flexible bands 4, 4a and 5, 5a are attached at their ends to frames 6, 7 whose relative displacement is indicated against a cycloidal scale 18 by a pointer 10 secured to the rotor 1, whose weight is supported by rails 11 and axial displacement prevented by flanges 12. The portions 2, 3 of the rotor 1 may be eccentric, as shown in Fig. 4, applied to a dial gauge for comparing lineardimensions of workpieces 27, an adjustable stop 24 being provided for setting the pointer to the part of the scale appropriate to the ratio of amplification at which the rotor is operating, this being greatest where the difference in working radii of the portions 2, 3 is least.
