Abstract

1423396 Testing tyres R WEBER 22 March 1973 [23 March 1972] 13979/73 Headings G1N and G1W [Also in Division F2] A joint for transmitting torque from a driven or decelerated shaft 20 to an output shaft 14 com- prises two resilient elements, such as thin metal diaphragms 36, 37, on an intermediate shaft 38, one of the elements being connected to the output shaft while the other is connected via a universal joint 31 to the driven or decelerated shaft. The invention may be applied to the testing of a vehicle wheel mounted on the output shaft and flange 14, 15 and on a force and moment measuring boss which consists of outer and inner cylinders 10, 11 inter-connected by bolts 21, 21' each provided in the middle of its length with four strain gauges, the inner cylinder being supported on bearings 12, 13. Bridge circuits, Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown) are given for determining contact force (P), horizontal force (U), turning moment (MR), camber moment (Ms) and axial force (S).
