Abstract
775,219. Pneumatic dashpots. VEEDERROOT, Inc. March 3, 1955 [March 8, 1954], No. 6282/55. Class 108(3). The piston 26 of a dashpot utilizing pneumatic working fluid, has a surface 28a complemental to the opposed surface 10a of one end wall 10 of the dashpot cylinder for displacing all the air from between the surfaces 28a, 10a, at, or near the end of, the stroke in one direction (downwards in the figure), whereby subsequent piston movement in the reverse direction is checked by the creation of a vacuum behind the piston, there being a resilient connection to permit continued movement of the relatively-movable members, after the piston has engaged the wall 10. The resilient connection is provided by piston 26 being slidably mounted against the action of a spring 44 on a reduced-diameter portion 40 of the piston rod 6. On the return movement of the piston rod 16, its shoulder 41 picks up the piston 26. A plug 50 is formed with a calibrated orifice 56.
