Abstract

774,914. Safes. CHATWOOD-MILNER, Ltd. Oct. 4, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1954], No. 28481/54. Class 44. [Also in Group X] A foot-plate 1 is lowered when a door 4 is opened by means of a driving pin 9 which moves with the door and drives a rack 14 which turns a pinion 17 the pinion being on a shaft 18 having at its other end a skew gear 19 engaging a further skew gear 20 directly attached to a pivot pin 21 on the foot-plate. The rack 14 slides in guides 22 and is adjustably attached to rack plate 13 by means of screws 15 threaded into bearings 16 on the plate 13. The pin 9 engages a cam opening 12 in the rack plate 13 and the shape of the opening 12 is such that during approximately the first 90 degrees of movement of the door from the closed position the rack plate 13 remains stationary and then during further movement of the door the plate 13 is displaced until the foot-plate reaches the outside floor level after which the door can open further without driving the rack plate. The rack 14 can be adjusted by means of the screws 15 so that the foot-plate does not strike the back of the door as it is being lowered. As shown, the door 4 is a strong-room door.
