Abstract
687,593. Swinging latches. JAY, H. F. Sept. 27, 1951 [July 25, 1950], No. 18570/50. Class 44 A latch for a gate or the like comprises, in the form of Figs. 1 and 2, a mounting member 3 on one part 1, a pivoted arm 6 projecting out of the member 3 and overlapping the edge 9 and a cam shaped part 8 on the arm adapted to be engaged by the edge of the others part 2 as the gate closes to displace the arm towards the vertical, the arm returning under gravity or spring force to secure the gate. The member 3 is of dished form and is secured to the part 1 by screws 7 one of which may form the pivot for the arm 6. The arm 6 projects through a gap 5 in the peripheral wall 4 of the member 3, the edge of the gap limiting the movement of the arm. The cam part 8 is of rounded cone shape and may be hollow. Means may be provided for releasing the latch from the other side of the door.
