Abstract
774,131. Stretching appliances. KNOWLES, R. A. Aug. 24, 1955 [Aug. 31, 1954], No. 25199/54. Class 11. [Also in Group XVI] A device for stretching a flexible web, e.g. a mesh 18 suitable for use in screen printing comprises a member 17 of U-section for tensioning the web in the direction in which the limbs of the U extend, and a pair of strips 19, 20, one of which is enwrapped by an end region of the web, capable of being accommodated in the space between the U-limb. The web is tensioned by means of screws 16 and butterfly nuts, the screws passing through projections on framework members 11-14 which are mutually engageable in alternative positions. After the mesh has been tensioned it is secured to one face of a frame disposed within the space defined by the four bars 11-14. Alternatively the stretching device may itself be used as a frame in which case the bars 11-14 are formed with portions bearing downwardly against the mesh iu the space enclosed by the U-shaped members, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
