773,884. Locks. HENSEL, E. Feb. 11, 1954, No. 4029/54. Class 44. In a mortice lock a sleeve 2 houses a sliding bolt 3, and a projection 11 on the sleeve projects into a slot 9 in the bolt. A cylindrical plug 1 is shaped to receive a shouldered key 8 which on insertion rotates in either direction for a quarter of a revolution in a semi-cylindrical keyway shaped with lands 7. The plug 1 is offset from the axis of the bolt 3 and during its revolution the key engages a talon 9<SP>1</SP> in the bolt to throw the bolt into or out of engagement with a keeper 6 in a jamb 14. A catch 4 lies in the slot 9 in the bolt and retains it in the shot position by engaging the projection 11. The catch is released by the pressure of the key bit on arm 4<SP>11</SP> of the catch which is pivoted against spring 5. The parts of the lock can be inserted and glued into simple borings made in a door and jamb and are preferably made of an injection moulded plastic material. A pip is provided on the end of the bolt to mark the position of the keeper bore on jamb 14.
