Abstract
775,098. Barrel locks. BIRO, L. J. March 20, 1954, No. 3238/54. Class 44. An anti-picking device in a revolving barrel lock of the pin tumbler type comprises a spring- loaded plunger mounted in the barrel which screens the tumblers by blocking the keyway and, when deflected to clear the keyway, locks the barrel. The plunger 21, Fig. 7, is mounted on a spring arm 26 secured in the barrel 12, and bevelled faces 18, 19, on the side of a key 16 deflect the plunger into engagement with a recess 22 in the lock cylinder 10 when the key is inserted or withdrawn. A slot 17 in the key 16 permits the plunger to free the barrel when the key is fully inserted. A depending flange 24 on the plunger 21 screens the lower part of the keyway. The outermost pin tumblers and locking pins are loosely fitted in their guideways to prevent picking the lock by lodging the locking pins on an arris of the barrel 12.
