Abstract

773,460. Valves. STOPPANI AKT.-GES. June 23, 1955 [June 26, 1954], No. 18235/55. Class 135. A tank-filling valve of the kind adapted to close automatically on the filling of a tank to a predetermined level and suitable for dispensing petrol is provided with an injector 38 in the output so arranged as to draw in air from a pipe 40 until the lower end of the latter is submerged by the rising level of liquid in the tank, whereupon the depression induced by the injector is transmitted through passages 39, 7 to a diaphragm 10 which is urged downwardly by a leaf spring 14 adjustable by a screw 16. The depression raises the diaphragm 10 which withdraws a pawl 12 from engagement with a spring- loaded plunger 22 allowing the plunger to move to the right to move a pivoted catch 33 out of engagement with a pin 34 carried by the main valve member 30 allowing the latter to be closed by a spring 30d. The plunger 22 also opens a hinged valve 9 at the end of a passage 8 communicating with the diaphragm 10. Before the valve can be reopened, the hand-operating lever 28, which may be held in the open position by a spring-loaded pin 29, must be released to enable a spring 35 to return a slidable member 36 to the left to re-engage the catch 33 with the pin 34 and the plunger 22 with the pawl 12. A spring-loaded check valve 32 is provided in the outlet. In a modification, suitable for refilling aircraft tanks, the inlet and. outlet branches of the valve are at right angles and the connection between the hand lever 28 and the slidable member 36 is by toothed gearing. Also, the adjusting screw 16, instead of being in line with the leaf spring 14 is at right angles to it. Specification 559,643 is referred to.
