Abstract

769,882. Collectors for dynamo-electric machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 21, 1955 [June 30, 1954; June 30, 1954], No. 17896/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 35. Brush erosion at high altitudes is reduced by making the slip-rings or commutator of a dynamo-electric machine of copper alloyed with at least 15 per cent nickel. For very high altitudes the nickel content may be raised to 56-60 per cent. In addition, the brushes may be lightly impregnated with 1-3 per cent by weight of barium fluoride, the normal practice with plain copper collectors being to use 6-8 per cent. Specification 601,378 is referred to.
