Abstract
590,770. Brush-holders for dynamoelectric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DAVIES, E.C. April 21, 1941, No. 5128. [Class 35] In a direct-current generator of the heavy current type, a plurality of metal brush-boxes 4 are mounted side by side, and are insulated from. a common support 1, as by insulation 9 and insulated bolt 13. Electrical connection to a common point is made by leads 8. The flow of current through the contact surface between brush and holder, which may lead to unequal brush loading, is thereby avoided. If the support is an arm or spindle, this may be covered or wrapped with insulation, over which the holders for the boxes are clamped; a similar result may be obtained by making the support itself of insulating material. A spring- loaded arm 6 exerts pressure on the brush. In a modification in which each of the boxes contains two brushes, an insulating partition is placed between the brushes and the box is lined with insulation.
