Abstract
769,381. Automatic couplers. BUCKEYE STEEL CASTINGS CO. May 16, 1955, No. 14039/55. Class 103(5). The lock 18 of an automatic coupler is provided with a cavity 27 having a ceiling surface 31 engageable by the nose portion 52 of a rotor lever 48 non-rotatably mounted on a shaft 42 which is turned by a coupler operating rod to lift the lock into the lock-set position, Fig. 4. For further lifting of the lock to effect knuckle throwing the rotor lever 48 is also provided with a lug 56, Fig. 3, which engages a lower ceiling surface 32 in the lock cavity 27. The lug 56 also engages the shouldered surface 59 on the lock as an anti-creep precaution when the coupler is in the knuckle closed position.
