Abstract

769,297. Reservoir pens. D. C. B., Ltd. May 18, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 7028/56. Divided out of 769,296. Class 146(3). In a ball-point pen the nib portion which carries the writing ball has at least the forward portion of the outer surface constituted of tin, or a tin alloy including not less than 10 per cent tin. The nib as a whole may be made of tin alloy. As shown, the nib 1, which is made of any suitable metal or material such as brass or aluminium alloy or nylon, is plated or externally coated with a continuous film 2 of tin alloy preferably comprising 84 per cent tin and 16 per cent antimony, or 89 per cent tin, 9 per cent antimony, and 2 per cent cadmium. In a modification, only a zone 3 extending rearwardly from the tip is coated with the tin alloy: The tin alloy may be applied by electrodeposition, dipping, spraying, chemical deposition, or condensation under high vacuum.
