768,697. Knitting. LIHN, M. M. May 4, 1954 [Dec. 28, 1953], No. 12962/54. Class 74(2). By arranging that the narrowing points at each side of a full fashioning machine never overlap the needle line by more than four points, the flare narrowing for the area 221, and leg narrowings, for the area 23<SP>1</SP>, are so positioned as to be buried in the back seam 25 of the stock. ing. The leg narrowings extend from the top of the calf to or below the narrowest portion 23<SP>3</SP> of the ankle and are uniformly distributed along the seam. The extent to which the outer narrowing points 36 overlap the needle is reduced to the required extent by eliminating points either from the inner ends of the outer narrowing fingers 34, Fig. 6, or from their outer ends, Fig. 8, the outer parts of brackets 37 carrying the points which are eliminated being (in this latter construction) cut away, the brackets re-positioned on the narrowing rods 40, 41, the usual collar between the opposed threads of the narrowing spindle omitted (so that the nuts can be brought closer together) and the narrowing rolls suitably shortened. In toe narrowing, the inner narrowing fingers 32 are used in addition, in order to compensate for the points removed from the outer narrowing fingers.
