Abstract

768,494. Setting-up cartons. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIEK AKT.-GES., F. April 6, 1955 [April 9, 1954], No. 10079/55. Class 94(1) Collapsed cartons H are separated in succession from a stack in a magazine 2, Fig. 1, by a reciprocating pusher 1 which positions them for engagement by pushers 12 carried by pairs of levers 7 pivoted to a rotating drum 4. The inner ends of the levers carry rollers 10 engaging fixed cam discs 11, whereby they are swung outwardly as they approach the magazine to cause the pushers 12 to project beyond the periphery of the drum and propel the cartons through a guideway formed between the periphery of the drum and a fixed concentric rail 8. As each carton reaches the exit 13 of the guideway, the associated levers are moved further outwards so that the carton is pressed into a pocket 15 in a continuously-operated endless conveyer 16 and opened by engagement of its leading edge with the forward inner corner of the pocket. The stack of cartons is urged upwardly by rotary brushes 6. In a modification (not shown) the guideway is defined by inner and outer rails concentric with the drum. The pivots of the levers may be mounted on members 18, Fig. 2, slidable in radial guides 19 on the drum and carrying rollers 21 engaging further fixed cam discs 20, so that when the levers are rocked they are also moved radially outwards to lift the rear end of the carton into the pocket 15. Tapered rails 22, see Figs. 3-5 (not shown), may be arranged at either side of the rail 8 so as to enter between the carton closure flaps and effect a preliminary opening of each carton as it moves through the guideway.
