Abstract
Textiles are impregnated with a solution of a resinous pre-condensate of an organic compound containing an amino or an amido group and an aldehyde, which solution contains as a catalyst a salt of ammonia or of a low-molecular orgnic base with a sulphonic or phosphonic acid or an acid ester of sulphuric or of phosphoric acid containing at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, and the impregnated material is then cured and finished. The sulphonic or phosphonic acid may contain an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylcycloalkyl or alkylaryl residue which may be substituted or interrupted by hetero-atoms such as nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur groups derived therefrom, and the acid esters may be derived from sulphuric or phosphoric acid and an alcohol, phenol or alkylphenol. Examples of the catalyst include salts of dodecylsulphonic acid, alkylphosphonic acids with alkyl residues of 16 to 20 carbon atoms, alkylbenzene sulphonic acids with alkyl residues of 10 to 18 carbon atoms, sulphuric acid esters of alcohols or mixtures thereof with 12 to 18 carbon atoms, alkylcyclohexyl sulphuric acid esters with alkyl residues of 12 to 16 carbon atoms, alkylphenyl sulphuric acid esters with alkyl residues of 4 to 10 carbon atoms or dodecyl- and octadecylphosphoric acid esters with ammonia, diethylamine, butylamine, hexylamine, ethylenediamine, N,N1 - diethyl - ethylenediamine, ethanolamine, propanolamine, diethanolamine or triethanolamine. The material treated may be threads, yarns or fabrics of cotton or rayon or mixtures thereof with wool. In examples, the resin precondensate is derived from urea and formaldehyde, melamine and formaldehyde, and melamine, urea and formaldehyde. After impregnation the material may be squeezed, dried and heat-treated. In Example 5 the catalyst is the ammonium salt of a sulphuric acid ester of a fatty alcohol mixture obtained from tallow fatty acids.ALSO:Textiles are impregnated with a solution of a resinous precondensate of an organic compound containing an amino or an amido group and an aldehyde, which solution contains as a catalyst a salt of ammonia or of a low-molecular organic base with a sulphonic or phosphonic acid or an acid ester of sulphuric or of phosphoric acid containing at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, and the impregnated material is then cured and finished.
