Abstract
766,825. Thermal 'switches. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 20, 1954 [May 22, 1953], No. 14829/54. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XIII] A switch responsive to overload or to ambient temperature variations comprises a fluid-filled capsule consisting of a snapacting conducting diaphragm 16 joined at its periphery by . insulating sealing material 24 to a conducting member 22, the diaphragm having a central portion 18 adapted in one position of the switch to engage and so complete a circuit to the member 22. This circuit may be the one which on overload heats the fluid sufficiently to cause the diaphragm to snap upwards to break the circuit, and the diaphragm may be self-restoring or may require additional external force to restore it. In modifications, the switch is normally open, the plate 22 is replaced by another diaphragm, and the diaphragms carry contacts. The sealing material 24 may be vitreous enamel, pulverized glass or borosilicate glass, according as the members to be joined are steel, nickel-copper alloy or beryllium-copper alloy. The fluid may be water vapour.
