Abstract
765,707. Straightening wire or cable. PYROTENAX, Ltd. July 29, 1955 [Aug. 3, 1954], No. 22494/54. Class 83 (4). A hand tool for use in straightening wires or cables comprises two housings A, B of generally U-shaped cross-section, each carrying rollers C, D, respectively, rotatable about axes transverse to the length of the housing, means for latching the two housings in an operative position with their open sides facing one another, spring means J acting in such operative position to urge the two housings towards one another to enable the two sets of rollers to grip between them a wire or cable passing longitudinally between the two housings, and means whereby on release of the latching means the two housings can be moved relatively about a hinge axis parallel to the lengths of the housings to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the wire or cable. Pivot pins E, E<SP>2</SP> of the two end rollers C of the housing A each carry at one end a bar F, extending towards the housing B and formed at the end with a hinge part. The other end of the pivot pin carries a spring clip G guided by abutments A<SP>1</SP> of the housing A. Through vertical slots in the side walls of the housing B extend transverse plates H which at one end carry the other part H<SP>1</SP> of the hinge engaging the hinge part on the bar F. The other ends of the plates H are formed as hooks H2 engaging slots G<SP>1</SP> in the clips G. Tension springs J are secured at one end to the plates H and at their other end to blocks J<SP>2</SP> adjustably secured to the housing B by screws K. The screws K serve to release tension in the springs to allow the housings to be unlatched. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4, the blocks J<SP>2</SP> are secured to rods L moved by cams L<SP>2</SP> operated by levers L<SP>3</SP>. In a modification, Fig. 6, the screws K are replaced by screws M, which may be dispensed with or replaced by pivoted arms, and the latch comprises a U-arm N engaging the hook H<SP>2</SP> and moved by a pivoted lever N<SP>1</SP> constituting a toggle.
