763,288. Photomechanical process and material. KODAK, Ltd. June 9, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 17714/54. Class 98(2) A light sensitive coating comprises a mixture of a hydrophilic colloid and an aqueous dispersion of a natural of synthetic rubber latex sensitised with an aryl azide compound, and such may be coated on a support as of aluminium to give a sensitive layer which will remain in good condition for some days or weeks, and may be exposed, washed and desensitised to result in a lithographic printing plate; or may provide a stencil suitable for silk-screen printing or for use as etching resist or relief image production by sandblasting. The image produced may be hardened by treatment with a salt of multi-valent metal as described in Specification 743,278, or may be treated as with benzene to provide it with a waterproof surface. In an example a rubber latex dispersion is added to an ammoniacal casein solution sensitized with disodium 4, 4'- diazidostilbene 2, 2'- disulphonate and this is whirl-coated on to a metal support to provide a layer which when dry is exposed in contact with an image, rinsed in weak alkali, and treated with lithographic ink before or after desensitising. Numerous synthetic rubber dispersions, conventional hydrophilic colloids, and additional ayrl azides and supports which may be used similarly are described.
