Abstract
The invention comprises bis-p-fluorobenzyl disulphide and a process for producing it by the action of sodium sulphide and sulphur on a p-fluorobenzyl halide in aqueous alcoholic solution. In an example p-fluorobenzyl bromide is treated with sulphur and sodium sulphide in aqueous alcoholic solution. The product is an acaricide. It may also be prepared by oxidation of the corresponding thiol with alcoholic iodine.ALSO:Bis - parafluorobenzyl disulphide (see Group IV (b)) is made up into dusts, dispersions and emulsions for the control of mites. In an example a suitable compoition is obtained from Insem 108 and xylene as solvent for the product, for dilution with water for an emulsion. Other diluents, powders, solvents, &c. mentioned include ignitable slow-burning compositions for smokes, non-volatile oils and supplementary solvents for aerosols, wetting &c. agents, and water-miscible solvents, such as cyclohexamine and acetone, and "Freon" (Registered Trade Mark).
