Class 86 [Also in Group XXX] A gate assembly for controlling the discharge of material from a mixer 14 through a loading spout 12 comprises a gate 34 which slides vertically on an end face 24 of the spout outlet. The gate 34 is carried by a cross-head 42 which extends across the front of the gate and has flanged end portions 46 which embrace the edges of the spout end face 24. Co-operating wedge members 48, 50a are provided on the parts 46 and 24 respectively in order to tighten the gate against its seat in the fully closed position. The gate seating comprises narrow strips 36, 38 of hard metal welded to the front of end face 24. A pair of spring pressed shoes 60 are carried by the cross-head 42 and bear against the front face of the gate 34. Vertical movement of the gate 34 is effected by rotation of a shaft 80 carrying forked arms 78 which are connected to stub shafts 74, extending from the sides of cross-head 42, by links 72. Rocking of shaft 80 is effected by fluid pressure means comprising cylinders 92 having pistons connected to actuating arms 88 secured to the shaft 80. A handle 84 is secured to the shaft 80 for use in rocking the shaft in an emergency.
