Abstract

762,410. Hydraulic fluids. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. May 16, 1955 [June 4, 1954], No. 16601/54. Addition to 721,594. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic fluid as claimed in the parent Specification contains, in addition, dissolved therein, less than 7 per cent of a water-soluble borate. The parent Specification claims a composition comprising water or a mixture of water and an alcohol or glycol, thickened with a minor proportion of a non-ionic detergent and a minor proportion of either an anionic or a cationic detergent and containing a silicone foam inhibitor. Alkali-metal borates, particularly borax, may be used, and they may be present in an amount between 0.1 and 5 per cent. A composition described contains an ethylene oxide derivative of cresols, ethylene glycol, water, sodium nitrite, sulphonated castor oil 50 per cent neutralized with caustic soda, a polysiloxane antifoam, sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate, and borax. The Specification also describes a make-up fluid comprising ethylene glycol, sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate, sodium nitrite, ethylene oxide derivative of cresols, sulphonated castor oil, borax and water.
