A built-in foot arch support of elastically deformable material has a concave rear portion supporting the heel and forwardly and downwardly inclined arch supporting portions overlying the sole and parts of the upper and extending to the anterior transverse arch. The inclined edges have their maximum height 27, 33 at the rear transverse arch as shown and slope down forwardly to the anterior transverse arch. In cross-section the support is concave at 28, 31 rising to a median reinforcement at 29 which has its greatest height under the rear portion of the third cuneiform bone and extends downwards to just forward of the anterior transverse arch.
