Abstract

760,842. Drawing. BIGWOOD & SON, Ltd., J. May 6, 1955 [May 14, 1954], No. 14133/54. Class 83 (4). Hydraulic cylinders 30 for moving the die carrier 28 of a draw bench towards a fixed gripper 24 for threading the die 18 over the leading end 19 of the work 20 act as a dashpot for the die carrier 28 during the initial movement of the draw carriage 15. The carrier 28 is actuated to thread the die by a pair of double-acting cylinders 30 through connecting rods 29 and during the initial drawing stroke the cylinders 30 discharge through a bleeder valve until the pistons reach the end of the stroke when the drawing operation continues at the full rate of travel. A pressure gauge 31 indicates the drawing force. The carriage 15 is drawn by a hook 16 engaging a continuous chain and has jaws 21 slidable on inclines 22 to grip the work. The fixed gripper 24 for threading the work is fixed to the machine bed against supports 25 has jaws 27 slidable on inclines 26 to grip the work.
