Abstract
A disinfectant composition having bactericidal and virus-killing action comprises a hydroxy-acid containing an aromatic ring or one of its derivatives or substitution products or salts, a bactericidal phenol or phenol derivative and an emulsifying or wetting agent, e.g. a soap in the form of an alkali or amine salt. Suitable acids include salicylic, chlorosalicylic, dichlorosalicyclic, bromosalicyclic, dibromosalicyclic, nitrosalicyclic, chloronitrosalicyclic, cresotic, chlorocresotic, dichlorocresotic, nitro - cresotic, bromonitrocresotic, o-hydroxyphenoxy-acetic, m-hydroxyphenoxyacetic, dihydroxybenzoic, and trichydroxybenzoic. Besides the carboxy group, the acidic group may be phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, or any other acid residue which is capable of forming salts with basic compounds. The mixture may be in liquid form or made into pastes or absorbed on sheets of paper or produced in solid form by using jelling materials or fillers.
