Abstract

760,497. Continuous - casting machines. JUNGHANS, S. Feb. 1, 1954 [Jan. 30, 1953], No. 2990/54. Addition to 704,620. Class 83 (1). The continuous-casting apparatus of the parent Specification is provided with a trough 10 interposed between the discharging-ladle and the vertical through-flow casting-mould, the molten metal being guided from the outlet 12 of the trough by a member 13 of refractory material having an open cross-section which is adjustable vertically and angularly relatively to a stand 14, which is mounted independently of the trough and is slidable on a support so that the width of the gap between the member 13 and the outlet 12 may be varied. As shown, the member 13 has a semi-circular cross-section; alternatively, flat plates of refractory material may be provided. Means may be provided in the member 13 for conducting heat to or from the molten metal. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a guidemember as above is provided opposite each outlet of a tilting-trough of double continuouscasting apparatus.
