Abstract

Liquid detergent compositions suitable for washing dishes, &c contains (1) a polyoxyethylene derivative of a compound of the formula ROH, where R is an alkylphenyl radical containing 8-10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or a branched tridecyl radical, e.g. the radical of a tridecyl alcohol obtained from tetrapropylene or triisobutylene by the oxo process, the polyoxyethylene derivative containing 8-12 oxyethylene groups, and (2) an amine salt of a benzene, toluene or xylene sulphonic acid substituted in the nucleus with an alkyl group of 10-14 carbon atoms, the amine being a primary, secondary or tertiary aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic amine of 3-6 carbon atoms, e.g. hexylamine, isopropylamine, trimethylamine, diethylamine, cyclohexylamine, furfurylamine, tetrahydrofurfurylamine, piperidine or morpholine. The relative proportions by weight of the components may range from 1:3 to 3:1. Typical compositions contain (1) equal amounts of the nonylphenyl ether of decaethylene glycol and of the isopropylamine salt of dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid, and (2) 35 per cent of the dodecaethylene glycol monoether of tridecyl alcohol obtained from tetrapropylene and 65 per cent of the isopropylamine salt of dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid.
