Abstract
753,819. Rivets; hinges. FLEMING Ltd., J. & R. Oct. 11, 1954 [June 7, 1954], No. 29272/54. Classes 65 (2) and 89 (1). [Also in Group XX] A rivet, e.g. for attaching a hinge plate 17, Fig. 7, to a non-metallic spectacle-frame 14, comprises a flaring member 32 having a head 35 and reduced-diameter shank 33, and a tubular rivet-member 28 having a head 29 and reduced diameter shank 31 slit to form tongues. Member 28 fits over member 32 and the tongue ends are shaped to fit against a curved part 34 joining the shank and head of member 32. The rivet is inserted in a recess, with head 35 against the base thereof, and member 28 is forced into the recess so that the tongues flare outwards into the material surrounding the recess. The heads 35, 29 may be provided with bores 40, 39, respectively, to receive a pin &c. projecting from an ornament or other article to be secured to the frame or other part 14. The hinge 16, Fig. 1, comprises plates 17, 18 having interfitting ears 19, 20, respectively, provided with aligned openings for a pin 22. The plates are recessed into the frame parts.
