Abstract

753,692. Altering physical structure. BAYER. ISCHE BERG-, HUETTENUND SALZWERKE AKT.-GES. April 6, 1954 [Nov. 23, 1953], No. 10007/54. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] A blasting material for cutting, notching or roughening the surface of hard metals consists of a mixture of round metal grains with edged metal grains, preferably broken metal grains, the metal grains being iron or steel. The round metal grains may be all the same size as likewise are the edged metal grains and the round grains are preferably smaller than the edged grains. The mixture may consist of 20 to 50 parts by weight of round grains and 80 to 50 parts by weight of edged grains. To impart a greater resistance to wear and tear to the edged grains these are subjected, before breaking, to a refining heat treatment, e.g. annealing at 700‹ C. to 800‹ C. for 6 to 8 hours and finally chilling in water, oil or salt solution.
